900 Obituaries Carlton Chappelle Carlton "Carl" W. Chappelle, 84, a retired Evansville Printing Corporation pressman, died at 3:07 a.m. today at Welborn Baptist Hospital. Mr. Chappelle, a resident of 5489 Eden retired 10 years ago as a pressman after 54 years of almost continuous service.
The only time Chappelle wasn't working with the Printing was when he spent a year in the Navy in 1918 during World War I and short period in the early 1920's when he worked at various jobs around the country. Chappelle, always considered a friendly man, came to work for the Printing when he was 17 as a pressman apprentice. His father, a telegraph operator, had brought the family to Evansville from the New Albany, area in 1914. Through his career with the Printing Chappelle saw many major events including the 1925 tornado in Missouri, Illinois and Southwestern, the 1937 flood and the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Chappelle had been a long member of the Evansville Printing Pressmen and Assistants Local No.
117. He served as recording secretary for 15 years of the union, and was on the negotiating team for many years. He was a member of the Evansville Masonic Lodge No. 64, Evansville Scottish Rite and York Rite. Chappelle was a member of the Washington Avenue Baptist Church, where he also was a trustee.

More drug arrests Two more men were arrested on drug charges yesterday as part of a series of drug arrests Evansville police began Tuesday. Bobby Lee Stuart, 28, of 433 13th and George Ray Quarles, 41, no address given, each were charged with two counts of dealing in a controlled substance. Twenty-one people have been arrested as the result of a five-month undercover investigation.
Thirtythree people were being sought for dealing in drugs or dealing in counterfeit drugs. NEW ALBANY. Ind. The retrial of John Albert Cabell, charged with the 1981 slaying of Haynie's Corner ice cream store owner Otis "Carl" McCown, will be longer than the original oneweek estimate. Both sides had expected to conclude the trial this week but Vanderburgh County deputy prosecutor Robert Zoss said today the case will continue into next week.
Testimony will be heard again tomorrow, after which the trial will recess until Wednesday, the day after the election. The case is being heard in Floyd County Superior Court, as the first trial was. It was moved out of Evansville because of pre-trial publicity. City Personnel Director Tom Dorsey said the discharge of Leroy Graham was effective Monday.
Dorsey said it is possible that Graham, a member of Teamsters Local 215, could challenge the firing through the grievance Cabell, 35, was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in June 1982 but his conviction was overturned by the Indiana Supreme Court, which said the judge improperly instructed the jury. At that time he had been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
