I found this hidden on craigslist and thought someone might be able to use it. I found some lineshaft and a pair of old motors (One looks like it could be a Century)

http://worcester.craigslist.org/tls/950374016.html

I could use the lineshaft to set up my F.E Reed if someone is looking just for the motor... But with Christmas on the way I am on a "tight" budget so I figured I would pass it on. However, if you buy this for the motor and do not need some of the shafting, please do drop me a line.

I jumped on this one - unless someone else has jumped faster or higher.

We'll see. Caviet Emptor.

Bump... John, I am guessing the guy wanted too much? I noticed that these are back on craigslist and listed as "lineshaft and old motors"

If he passed, did he have a figure in mind?

Actually, he never left but continues under several "nom-de-plume" including "bullet making machinery", "Line shaft and motors", "Generators", "pulleys."

Sent him an Email via the Craiglist drop and also his personal address which he gave also. No reply. Ad is still there so perhaps he is merely "fishing" and wants to score the "BIG ONE." I didn't exactly "lowball" him but made him a reasonable offer and what I might pay at Orange, MA or Dublin, NH swap meets for the same sort of items.

After all this stuff is OLD and EVERYONE wants an antique that weighs as much as their pickup can carry. Don't they?

Actually, I see the seller has a whole bunch of other "toys" for sale. No prices so I assume this is someone cleaning out his barn (and exercise room) and paring down to face the oncoming economic downturn. You now see a lot of "toys" for sale by the side of the road - and have sold a few myself (like that 1930 Model AA Truck Chassis - with 26K original miles.)

No matter. There's more of this sort of stuff out there. And if there isn't, I'll make do with what I have already - just like they did in 1873 during the Great Panic (as it was known.)

Things haven't changed a whole lot.

Sorry, I pushed the critical button a little bit. And thank you for the vote of confidence.

But Craigslist is funny. I guess you have to expect this since you're dealing with the public at large with all the motivations and inattentions that this brings.

At least he saw it as something marketable and we can all take comfort that someone, somewhere will put it to use. Maybe a decoration in a restaurant? Been done before at Maxwell Silverman's Tool Shed in Worcester, a place anyone on this board would stay for the "after dinner cordial" just so they can claim seating.

Or maybe just for the cordial...

Just thought I'd let you guys know that this stuff has made it's way to my basem*nt (as of yesterday). It was a long process. I may have been successful because I live about 3 miles from the seller.
I have not decided what I am going to do with it yet. I was toying with the idea of eventually installing line shafting above my Hendey cone head, instead of mounting the electric motor on the elevated motor bracket that bolts to the back of the bed. But the Hendey project is going on 6 years now, and is the oldest exhibit in the Hall of Unfinished Projects that doubles for my shop. I may never get to the line shafting.

The motors are heavy. I would say about 100 lbs each. One is a Century. I haven't even cleaned the plates to see hp, rpm, ph, etc. yet.

If I decide to sell the items, I will post here and/or at OWWM.

I saw the sellers successive ads and choked a little bit at his price perception. But that's the name of the game, of course. Being local and prepared and ready to make the "removal" is frequently what makes something "move," even more than the price.

Anyway, good luck on a most excellent score. Those are the duplicates of the hangers that my lineshaft is to be hung from - and this kind were relatively late in the lineshaft game. They're "Dodge" products, I believe. Pre-cursors to the Dodge Motor Company? Dodge Power Transmission was big into split wooden pulleys and all sorts of power transmission equipment. Think I saw at least one Dodge Pulley too in the pix.

Now enter your name on the ledger as "keeper of the flame."
